Our Story

We criticize society through art. From mental health to social dissent, own your defiance.

The Shop

Happy Impulse is a mostly online, independent artist business run by a queer couple—Roberta and Cheryl. It officially launched during the hellscape of the 2020 pandemic.

Each piece in our rebel art and queer shop is carefully designed in-house, fueled by a healthy dose of defiance. While not every item is crafted in our home studio, the ones that are come with our blood, sweat, and—lez be honest—mostly of tears.

We offer a variety of goods—from stickers to tees—each featuring designs that embody the juxtaposition of madness and sanity.

Roberta (The Artist)

Roberta is the chaos behind each illustration. To her, making art is like finding a safe space—where weird meets wonderful. Her style is a vibrant mix of childhood nostalgia and queer identity, seamlessly infused with elements of mischief, a rebellious spirit, and a dash of ADHD.

In 2016, burdened by her silence in a world filled with challenges, she adopted a naive yet enduring belief: art has the power to transform and shape our world, or at the very least, spark meaningful conversations. Rejecting conformity, she embraced the night as her refuge, where she could craft illustrations that explored the fragile line between madness and sanity, reveling in society’s wonderfully weird contradictions. For her, creating art became a profoundly underrated form of self-therapy.

Her art never remains silent. By amplifying her own voice, she subconsciously grants others permission to do the same, courageously being loud in a world that often forces silence.

The Better Half (Cheryl)

Meet Cheryl, the backbone behind Happy Impulse's vibrant heartbeat. The organizational wizard of the duo, Cheryl was born and bred in the lively streets of San Francisco and now manages the day-to-day gears of our Georgia-based shop. She's the one dotting the 'i's and crossing the 't's, ensuring things run like clockwork—meticulous with every detail except for meddling in the art; that’s Roberta's territory.

When the day’s work is done, you might find Cheryl with a book in hand, adventuring through unknown landscapes, indulging in good food, or basking in the quiet while their dogs play at her feet. A lover of baseball, jogging, and spinning on her Peloton, Cheryl's love for a life without drama and filled with kindness shines through her every action. And while she may have a knack for avoiding chaos, it's Roberta's wild storm of creativity that she adores most—a perfect blend of contrast and complement in their shared journey.
